Sorry Ya-Ya, But you'll have to open and edit in Access. Your Uni should have a copy (you said in a previous post you were at Uni - well, had a suprvisor which I assumedwas at a Uni). Just don't use Access 2007 as we haven't tried that version.

Unfortunately I don't have Access anymore (well I have an old version of Office 2000 Pro with Access but I don't really want to install it with Office 2003. So, for some reason I never uninstalled the Works program that came on my computer. After trying to find a way to open the file in Excel (there may be a way but I am no expert with this stuff), and the Works database program, I remembered that SPSS could open Access files. So, please tell me if there is a simpler way, but for now I guess I'll edit the data in SPSS, and then save it as an Access file, and then follow your instructions to save it as a met file.  Hope it works and thanks again!

p.s. ok, so I can open the file in Excel but I can't find a way to save it as an .mdb file, so guess I'll stick with the SPSS method!

Hi Ya-Ya,

Sure is. But it's a work-around at this stage.

1. Export a demo copy to Access to work with. I have attached an exported one you can use (inside the zip file YaYa.zip) if you don't know what I mean.
2. Cut and paste from the excel sheet you have your data in into the right columns of the exported access sheet which you have open using MS Access (keep column titles, etc).
3. Literally rename the edited (i.e., originally exported) Access data sheet from ***.mdb (e.g., Myexporteddata.mdb) to ***.met (e.g., mydata.met).
4. Open the new edited Access file with the ESG.

A bit laborious, but it works.

I have a new question. I know that I can export a database into Excel, which is great, but is there a way to import anything from Excel? Or is it even possible to cut and paste several cells from Excel into a database file for the meta-analysis program? Thanks to you or anyone else that can answer this question - as quickly as possible!
