Statistical Software
Below are some programmes that were made to facilitate clinical and academic workflow. Feel free to try them out. Keep them if you like them.
Clinical Assessment Software
Many assessment intruments do not have easily computed scores / interpretations. Over the years we have made various questionnaire scorers and make them freely available here.
Statistical Freeware Packages
Below are small programmes that were not generally available to academics or clinicians and have been made for a specific purpose at some point or other. Feel free to try them out (available on the download page).| Name | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Equivalence Generator | Computes a Two One-Sided t-Test (TOST) for independent and paired samples. This allows us to test for equivalence as opposed to difference (although this programme does both). |
| Very Average Generator | This small application computes averages for up to 6 numbers using both unweighted and weighted formulae. We were going to call it the Mean Generator but decided against it! |
| Standard Deviation Generator | This application will allow you to convert the standard error of the mean into a standard deviation and also allow you to compute the standard deviation from a given confidence interval (e.g., 95% confidence intervals). |
| Z-Score & Percentile Generator | This application computes Z-scores and percentiles for a mean and standard deviation (SD). It will also convert between an SD and a confidence interval and convert between a confidence interval and a SD. It will also compute whether a score is significantly different from a scale's mean (e.g., whether a score on a questionnaire is significantly different from the mean). |
| Prediction Rate Success Generator | This programme computes the likely number of true hits one would get by chance if one randomly allocated individuals to one of two groups. It is useful to compare your success rate compared to that of chance. |
| d' (d Prime) Generator | Inspired by Prof Jeff Lohr, this programme computes two types of d'. In the first version (where no base rates are known), d' is the standardised difference between a true signal and an untrue signal (i.e., noise). The second version of d' computes probabilities of a condition given the hits (true signals), false alarms (untrue signals; i.e., noise), and base rates (how prevalent is the condition). |
Clinical Assessment Freeware
Below are scoring (or scoring and interpretation) generators for psychiatric / psychological practice and research. Obviously, these should not be used for self-diagnosis.| Name | Explanation |
|---|---|
| The DASS21 and DASS10 Scoring & Interpretation Generator. | The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS; Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) is a freely available psychometric test assessing Depression, Anxiety and Stress. There is a 42 item, a 21 item and a 10 version of this instrument. This programme will score and provide interpretive guidelines for the 21 item and 10 item versions. |
| PTSD Scoring & Interpretation Generator (DSM-IV version) | The PTSD Checklist is a 17 item trauma symptom severity checklist. This second version programme computes scores and interprets according to both 'research rules' and 'DSM-IV rules'. |
| PCL5 Scoring & Interpretation Generator (DSM-5 version) | The PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 is under construction. |
| BDI Scoring & Interpretation Generator | The Beck Depression Inventory in a 21 item measure of depressive symptomatology. This scorer will provide z scores, percentiles and a category rating of the derived score. Computes for both version 1A and 2. |
| OCI-R Scoring & Interpretation Generator | The Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory - Revised is an 18 item questionnaire measuring washing, checking, Ordeering, Obsessing, Hoarding, Neutralising and provides a total OCD score. This software provides z Scores and percentiles for people to be compared with different populations. |
| OCI-CV-R Scoring & Interpretation Generator | The Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory - Child Version - Revised. As above, but for kids. |
| GAD-7 Scoring & Interpretation Generator | The GAD-7 is a Generalised Anxiety Disorder measure comprising just 7 questions. This software provides a total score, a Z score, Percentiles and Category of concern and also provides brief intervention suggestions depending upon the score. |
| K10 Scoring & Interpretation Generator | The Kessler 10 Item measure of psychological distress is one of the most used screener measures in the world. This programme will score the K10 and give you a reference percentile (and summary of functioning) based upon whether you want to compare against a population with or without a mental health disorder. |
